My POV during the holiday break

Day after the blizzard

Having a ton of fun with this new lens. Its a little soft now and then, but I'm still going to do some tests to try and find the sweet spot. I'll post it when I find it along with some horizontal shots next time.

Eclipse (not the vampire movie)

Snapped this before the cloud cover rolled in. The Earth's shadow had just started blocking the Sun's light. (Cropped Image)

TMax 100 and Richard Avedon

Thanks to my friend, Nicole Abascal, who modeled for me on this project. I had never done studio lighting before this but wanted to give it a try after I recently saw the Richard Avedon exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. If you get a chance, definitely check it out:
and check out this book too, a great read and huge collection of his photographs throughout his entire career:

I shot this on Kodak TMAX 100 and man, do I love that stock. I love the high contrast and decided to push it even more with a 4:1 lighting ratio for my backlight. For the last one, I remembered how Avedon's models always seem to have a lot of movement. I left the shutter open for 1/15s as Nicole jumped and spun around. That shot was also a lot of fun because I didn't have a tripod.

My first post

I figured a good way to start off a photography blog would be to show off my new Christmas acquisition, the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5. The 10mm really stretches things out, so I've been having a lot of fun with it already. Its a beauty and is already serving me well. I'll post some photos from it in a bit with more of a review.
